The ECNV Board PresidentHaving served in many capacities at the ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia (ECNV) for over the past three decades, I am excited to celebrate ECNV’s 30th anniversary with you at our Gala on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Westin Arlington Gateway in the Ballston section of Arlington. The Gala will provide us with a great opportunity to commemorate our past, celebrate our successes, and focus on future goals to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities in Northern Virginia.

This will also enable the ECNV community to express our gratitude to our outgoing Executive Director David Burds who will retire at the end of October. Reaching out to the ECNV community, I assembled a dynamic Search Committee to begin the search for a new Executive Director. The announcement will be distributed in the coming days and will be posted on our website.

ECNV has grown significantly over the past thirty years. 2012 will afford the Northern Virginia community a chance to reenergize and revitalize our Independent Living core services and resource development to garner support for innovative programs and services that our consumers direct to meet the needs of our community.

I am happy to report that the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority approved our application to continue to provide travel training to individuals with disabilities to use the Metrorail and Metrobus, giving them access to participate in their community for work, recreation, and/or education.

These are exciting times for ECNV and the Board and I look forward to working with you to better meet the needs of our consumers over the next thirty years!

ECNV Board President Marcie Goldstein
